How To Apply for Study Visa In Germany From India?

The German study visa process already takes a lot of time if you don’t know when you have to apply and how you can apply.

How To Apply for a Study Visa In Germany?

Applying for a study visa is a long process, So you should have started working on that before a couple of months moving to that country. But first, fo all prepare the following things,

1.) In Which University You Want to Study:-

To know how to apply Study visa for Germany, you have to choose a University and apply to that University. And when you are accepted from your desired University, you will be provided an acceptance letter. On the basis of that acceptance letter, you will start your Visa application process.

You may apply for a position in a German university in different ways. The best choice for you depends on the topic and country of origin you wish to study.

You have to choose your University very wisely based on the subjects and courses you want to pick. The conditions and deadlines depend on the topic and on the University.

Your university admission depends on your school qualifications and your interests in the subjects. And your adapted courses depend on your Visa duration.

So you have to select programs that support your Visa durations. Some degrees are for four years while some courses require only a few months, so it totally upto to you that what courses or programs you want to sign in.

When you are selected from your desired University, they will send you an appointment letter. And then, you’ll start your procedure of applying for a Visa.

2.) Which Type of German Visa you need:-

Above all, you must be aware of the German form of Visa to which you are entitled.

There are many German embassy visas, including visas to visitors and visitors, visas to study & to speak, work visas, business, etc. There are several types of tickets, and German Visa is also differentiated by the intended Duration of your stay in Germany.

Mainly there are two types of Visa for Germany:

1. Short term Visa
2. Long term Visa

You must remain in Germany for more than six months as an international student, so you have to apply for a long-term visa known as the D visa. To be able to study in Germany, Indian students must receive a studying & learning language visa.

The short-term Visa allows students to remain in Germany for up to three months and is thus only suitable for students who are interested in a short course and not for graduates.

In general, if a student wants to extend a short-term visa, he will have to leave his home country and request a visa again.

Whereas you may need a National Visa or long-term Visa if you choose to study abroad (both undergraduate and postgraduate). This is a visa for any student who wishes to stay longer than 90 days in Germany.

The first move is to establish an appointment in your country at the German Embassy. Then you will be told what documents you are supposed to need.

3.) Time to Book Appointment with Embassy:-

To apply for your student visa application, you must reserve an appointment at the German Embassy. To do this, please check the German embassy website for online applications.

And if you are a master’s, doctoral, postdoctoral student, highly professional, and scholarship holder, you don’t have to book an appointment; you can directly go to India’s German Embassy.

It would help if you had these things for Visa:

1. Completed application form,
2. Valid Passport,
3. Two pictures,
4. The letter indicating that a German university has approved you,
5. University record transcript,
6. German language skills certificate, or Proof that you wish to take a German language course (if studying in German),
7. Proof that you have enough funds to sustain yourself in Germany (€8,700 annually, approximately ~$10,250).

10. You will also have to demonstrate that you have no criminal record, depending on the Embassy.

One of the ways you can show that you have enough money to research in Germany is by depositing a security payment into a blocked account – you can withdraw the money only after you arrive in Germany.

3.) Visa Fees & Appointment Day:-

National visa fees can be approximately Rs6200 (according to Indian Currency). In this respect, it is necessary to make sure that everything is in its place on the appointment day.

1. Check carefully, if possible, your paperwork several times to see if you unintentionally missed something.
2. Leave early, so you’re on schedule on the appointment day. At least 30 minutes before the scheduled meeting
3. The session lasts about 10 minutes before you obtain your application from the officer and ask you some questions about your visit to Germany.
4. Track the Visa Application:-

The positive thing is that you can keep track of your request at any time. In general, there is a separate website for the VPS website in India, on which to find details about your application processing level.

Depending on the ambassador’s workload and the need for verification, your application’s processing period can vary from 15 to 60 calendar days. It usually takes approximately ten working days following the presentation or the interview.

Be mindful, however, that additional documentation may be necessary and may need a further delay. Up to 60 days after your German student visa application, you will obtain a response. So make sure you submit all the things in one short. Try to avoid another detail in the process.

4.) Apply for Residential Permit:-

You will have to register in the country, within two weeks of your arrival, at the local Alien Registry Bureau. You have to apply here for a research residence permit. The documents required for the Visa are similar to those required:

1. Proof of current private or public health insurance is needed,
2. Your University’s enrolment certificate,
3. Evidence of ample financial resources,
4. Passport must be valid,
5. If you have a current visa, show it to me,
6. a health certificate (if applicable),
7. Your tenancy contract (if applicable),
8. Images with biometric passports (if applicable) and
9. Fee for a residence permit (check the current rate beforehand to make sure you bring enough money).

Since Proof of language proficiency would have been requested as part of your university application, you will be required to provide it again to obtain your residence permit.

International students may need to have a TestDaf or DSH score for German-taught courses or a TOEFL or IELTS score for English-taught classes.

This residency permit is good for two years and should be extended if necessary before it expires. The initial cost of a residency permit is €100 (US$120), with subsequent extensions costing up to €96 (US$115).

5.) Employment with study Visa:-

Working in Germany is legal for students with a student visa, but the number of days they can work is restricted. It equates to 120 full days or 240 half days every year.

Exceeding the 120-day cap usually is not an issue if you work as a student assistant or research assistant at your University. If you do, you must notify the Alien Registration Office.

Students from the European Union are permitted to work for up to 20 hours a week without obtaining a work permit.

Suppose you choose to remain in Germany after graduation to look for jobs. In that case, international students with a residence permit can extend it for up to 18 months afterward graduation, as long as the job is relevant to their field of study.

Graduates from EU/EEA countries are free to remain in the country and look for jobs. It is possible to apply for permanent residency status after two years of employment in Germany.

It is always advantageous, but not always necessary, to be fluent in German while looking for Germany’s work.
